$25 for tryouts - online or at tryouts

OBJECTIVE: Continue teaching middle and high school-age girls the sport of volleyball in a positive, competitive environment. Expand upon the concept of playing as a team where everyone has their own responsibilities on the court. Players will begin to understand the different positions in volleyball and will be coached to improve proficiency in the basic skills. Playing time will be even as the players are learning how to play with each other on the court.

  1. Serving – tossing, swing speed, consistency of serve, placement of serve(zones), jump serving
  2. Passing – base, platform, movement training, target area, ready position
  3. Setting – base, hand placement, footwork, high repetition, placement of sets
  4. Attacking – free balls, down balls, attacks at the net, attacks from the attack line, approach footwork, jump training
  5. Blocking – Basics of footwork taught at this level, progression of play (ball, setter, ball, hitter), the timing of the jump

MATCHES: Developmental teams will participate in Friday Night League, hosted by CSA. League will take place on Friday evenings, starting in January and continuing through mid-March. Teams will get 12 matches of play. If we must cancel due to weather, we have a make-up day schedule before the season ends. Friday Night League locations vary; We utilize local schools around the Colorado Springs area. The start time is anywhere from 5:30-7:30 pm, depending on the location. Each team will play two matches each night. For our Developmental teams, League will take the place of the 2nd practice.  The developmental season starts in November and ends in mid-March, with up to 6 weeks of play. Check the Friday Night League tab for more information about the league!

GOALS:

  1. Become more proficient at volleyball skills.
  2. Understand the different positions on the court and their duties.
  3. Become more efficient at using offensive/defensive systems.
